The Reason the Democratic Party Has Concealed its 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The move by the Democratic National Committee to suppress the public viewing of its own post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election appears remarkable yet entirely predictable. Opposed to unpleasant candor, the party's leadership apparatus operates more like a communications shop than an electoral entity devoted to building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to depart from the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has remained within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Publishing such a report would have indicated that the leadership truly desire to promote open debate regarding the errors which allowed Donald Trump to become president again. Yet, the leadership is moving forward as if there are no lessons to glean from the stunning loss of 2024.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," an explanation reportedly given for withholding the document.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem with any value would tackle head-on key points of failure. These include:

  • Electoral Disenchantment: The loss among millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal in the close 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Run: The stubborn choice of a party leader to seek re-election, alongside a very late step-aside, is viewed as denying Democratic voters the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: While facing economic anxiety, the electoral effort is criticized for accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to confront the role of profit-seeking.
  • A Gaza Effect: The failure to adjust a stance concerning the situation in Gaza allegedly caused driving away key demographic groups, notably among young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Polling data shows a huge decline of Democratic support among the youth electorate.

A History Avoiding Accountability

This refusal fits a pattern of sidestepping difficult realities. It echoes a dynamic where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's determination to seeking another term right up until a poor campaign event forced a change.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters were continually telling surveyors of their opposition to the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Issues

A thorough autopsy would also probe matters about financial allocations, such as how much money were directed to insider consultants and media firms during a campaign that burned through a staggering sum in a short period.

A Larger Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference to the existing power structure who engineered an unsuccessful electoral effort. The signal for the party's base – including millions of small donors – is that they do not have a right to know the lessons the insiders have learned from a report based on extensive interviews.

An organization incapable to publicly examine where it went wrong is unlikely to climb out of the rut that proved so advantageous to the winning candidate.
